A chance to pause: LDN’s parent wellbeing workshops

Since last summer, we’ve been running monthly wellbeing sessions for parents of children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

The idea was simple: to give parents space to focus on themselves, connect with others and feel less alone.

Many come in carrying a lot and these sessions are a chance to pause. They can forget about any stress and responsibilities.

We’ve done yoga, breathing techniques, free painting, and craft activities related to the season of the year.

We painted pots to welcome spring and knitted in winter.

All sessions are relaxed and drop-in, so there’s no pressure. Parents can take what they need from it: whether it’s a moment of calm, a chat with someone who is understanding, or just the chance to do something for themselves.

Parents say they leave feeling lighter, more grounded, and better able to manage the week.

Some have built friendships and stayed connected outside the sessions.

One of the best moments was during last October half-term, when families joined together for a community event that really showed how much the workshops had grown.You could feel the warm atmosphere and genuine connection between the people who came.

These sessions aren’t about fixing everything. They’re about showing up and being together. It sounds simple, but it’s made a real difference.
